Rocca Malatestiana

The Rocca Malatestiana, which stands at the top of Monte Giove, is the medieval fortress of the Malatesta family. The high tower dates back to the 14th century, while the fort took on its present shape in 1447, and saw the successive rule of Carlo Malatesta and then Sigismondo Pandolfo. It is thought that the adulterous story of Paolo and Francesca took place here, as did other unmentionable crimes.
