Porta Cervese

The Cervese Gate is known as the “Salt Gate”Cervese Gate because it leads onto the road that linked Santarcangelo and Cervia, famous for its salt marche. Built in the 14th century by the Malatesta family, the Gate is the only remaining entrance to the second circle of city walls. It originally had a drawbridge, the guidelines for which can still be seen and outer portcullius. When it no longer served as a fortified city gate, the structure was turned into a private house. Today the Cervese Gate preserves its original square shape and single opening.
