The Parish Church is the oldest place of christian worship in the city and of Montefeltro region, representing the first material witness of Christianization in the area, operated by San Leone between the 3rd and 4th century. The ciborium of the church dates back to 882, according to the tradition of the Duke Ursus who dedicated it to the Virgin. It can be assumed as the date of construction of the whole church, even if elements Romanesque postpone the construction in the current aspect to the 11th century. The ancient Carolingian church was damaged by an earthquake and rebuilt almost completely. The interior walls were once largely covered by frescoes, whose traces have been lost.
