Palazzo del Viminale

The Palazzo del Viminale is an historic palace, seat of the Ministry of Interior since 1925. The palace was commissioned by Giovanni Giolitti, who conceived it as the nerve centre of Italian Executive; it was designed in 1911 by the architect Manfredo Manfredi and was officially inaugurated in 1925. The Palace is 5 floors high with hundreds of rooms, linked each other by a series of crossed itineraries. The imposing three-arched entrance of the Palazzo della Presidenza, the staircase of honor of the Palazzo degli Uffici, the room of the Council of Ministers and the entrance hall of the staircase at the piano nobile, with its wood, marble and stuccodecorations, are especially noteworthy.
