The National Museum is situated in the cloisters of the former Benedictine Monastery, in the monumental complex of San Vitale. The museum contains important collections of minor arts, such as some funeral steles and epigraphs, various archaeological fragments, a collection of textiles (from Coptic to Renaissance period), an important collection of ivory pieces, a rich collection of icons, a coin and medal section and a fascinating collection of ancient weapons. Further works on display are the cycle of 14th-century frescoes of Santa Chiara that decorated the church of the Poor Clare Sisters in Ravenna, today Rasi Theatre, and the mosaics of the archaeological complex of Via d'Azeglio.
