Monumento ad Alessandro Volta

This statue was ordered from the neoclassical sculptor Pompeo Marchesi, pupil of Canova, in 1838, while the base, with decorations which reproduce the inventions of the famous physicist from Como, was designed by Franco Durelli. During the renovations of Piazza Volta in 1999, bicentenary of the battery, 5 lights were put on the base of the statue to emphasize it.
