The monument to Canapone is a monument located in Piazza Dante in Grosseto. It is dedicated to the Grand Duke Leopold II of Lorraine, who was amicably nicknamed "Canapone" from the citizens. It was created by the sculptor Luigi Magi Asciano just before the half of the 19th century. Its location in the center of the square goes back to the spring of 1846. The monument is located at the point where there was a well that, in the previous centuries, was necessary for the water supply of dwellings in the corresponding area of the old town; the cistern below was buried in the space corresponding to the area bounded by the circumference raised.
