The Cathedral of San Giorgio is considered one of the great examples of Sicilian Baroque architecture. This church, distinguished as part of the world monumental heritage by UNESCO, has been rebuilt on several occasions, following the disastrous earthquakes which rocked Modica in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. One of the most beautiful churches in Modica, its imposing façade sits atop a scenic staircase of 164 steps. This dramatic setting proves to be a destination for art lovers and true romantics. Following this monumental staircase all the way to the top leads the visitor to a beautiful panorama and the gardens known as the Orto del Piombo.
