Chiesa di Santa Maria di Castello

The church of Santa Maria di Castello is the oldest sacred building in the city of Udine and dates back to the Lombard period. The present construction reveals a Romanesque structure, dating from the XII century. The 1511 earthquake damaged the facade, which was readapted by Gaspare Negro at the beginning of the Sixteenth century, while the bell tower was completed by Giovanni da Udine in 1539.
