Chiesa di Santa Croce

The remains of the Church of Santa Croce are located in the surroundings of the church of Santa Maria Maggiore, close to Mausoleum of Galla Placidia. Erected in the first half of the 5th century by Galla Placidia, over the centuries the latin cross church underwent many elevations and reconstructions. What we see today is the 17th century façade, the 15th century apse that rises on the site where the nave and the transept originally crossed, and the bell tower dating back to the 18th century.
