Bastione Garibaldi

The bastion Garibaldi is located at the north-west of the walls of Grosseto, not far from the Porta Nuova. It was built in the second half of the '500, during the rebuilding of the wall made by the Medici, near the church of St. Benedict, a religious building close to a monastery which was demolished for the construction of the walls. Its current name is due to the presence of the monument to Giuseppe Garibaldi, placed there at the beginning of the fascist period. The bastion Garibaldi, as all other bastions of the walls of Grosseto, has a polygonal shape and base shoe in continuity with the curtain above; It is the only bastion without gunships.
